Bats in the House ringing in October
Michael and I sat watching something mundane on TV, when a lovely little bat flew in through our open door. It was at once exciting and hilarious to watch Michael dart to the floor, pick up a pillowcase from the laundry pile and start flinging it at the swirling bat. I was laughing heartily as I opened the other side of the French doors to create a larger opening for the bat to get out. She must have been in the house for about 5 minutes, swooping around the living room, into the kitchen. Michael did an excellent job of keeping her from going down the hallway toward the bedrooms. She seemed to enjoy circling around the turning ceiling fan, I wonder if it read as a very large moth to her sonar night vision. Then she swooped out… and then back in for another turn around the fan… and then out into the night. I was glad to know the bats are out getting all the bugs, although I found it interesting that she made herself known just as we are welcoming in the month of Halloween.
Mitchell enjoyed hearing the story in the morning, but we were scolded for not waking him up. I promised that the next time a bat flies into our house, we would wake him up.
Happy Haunting this month.
